SEIPID Workflow: How Persistent Identifiers Are Issued | XRC

Learn about the world's most secure persistent identifier system.

SEIPID Workflow

SEIPID operates on a simple principle: trust is earned, not assumed. Our workflow ensures that every identifier issued comes from a verified source with basic integrity standards in place — making SEIPID more than just a persistent link, but a mark of credibility.

From initial registration through ongoing compliance, each step is designed to be transparent, auditable, and supportive. Whether you're a small journal taking your first step toward recognition or an established publisher seeking integrity-led infrastructure, the path is clear and consistent.

Key differentiator: SEIPID issuance is only enabled after a journal passes ALIF Pre-Index — our basic integrity gate. This single requirement transforms what a persistent identifier represents.

Step 1 — User Registration & Identity Verification

A journal manager, publisher, or institutional representative creates an account. Identity verification ensures that every actor in the system is traceable — automated checks combined with manual review where needed. This foundational step establishes accountability from day one.

Step 2 — Journal or Publisher Registration

The verified user submits journal or publisher details to enter the SEIPID ecosystem. Clear, documented requirements guide the submission — no hidden criteria, no gatekeeping. This is where journals begin their journey toward ALIF Pre-Index eligibility.

Step 3 — Review, Verification & Approval

Submissions undergo both automated validation and human review by our specialized team. If issues are found, journals receive detailed feedback — not just rejection. We tell you what needs improvement and how to fix it. Once approved, the journal is activated and can now apply for ALIF Pre-Index.

Step 4 — ALIF Pre-Index Evaluation (The Integrity Gate)

Before any SEIPID can be issued, the journal must pass ALIF Pre-Index — a baseline integrity check covering governance, transparency, and ethical publishing practices. This is the non-negotiable gateway that protects the SEIPID registry and ensures every identifier carries a signal of trust.

Step 5 — Metadata Submission & SEIPID Generation

Once ALIF Pre-Index is passed, journals submit metadata for volumes, issues, and articles. SEIPIDs are generated automatically after validation. Free plans allow a limited number of SEIPIDs per year — because we believe emerging journals shouldn't be priced out of participation.

Step 6 — Metadata Correction & Updates

Scholarship evolves, and so can metadata. If errors are found or updates required, journal managers can revise records through controlled mechanisms. Every change is logged and audited — transparency maintained, citations never broken.

Step 7 — Ongoing Compliance Monitoring

Trust isn't a one-time event. SEIPID conducts periodic reviews to ensure journals continue following registry guidelines, metadata standards, and responsible publishing practices. This protects the integrity of the entire ecosystem.

Step 8 — ALIF Index Tiers (L1–L3) & Advanced Recognition

Journals that demonstrate sustained quality can progress beyond Pre-Index to ALIF Index tiers: L1 (Emerging), L2 (Established), and L3 (Excellence). Each tier unlocks greater visibility, citation tracking, and recognition — a clear path from integrity to excellence.
